Is Your Website ADA Compliant? Why It Matters Even If You Are Not in the US
The Americans with Disabilities Act requires websites to be accessible to people with disabilities. ADA lawsuits against websites have increased dramatically, and they target businesses of all sizes.
Even if your business is based outside the US, if you serve American customers or have US website visitors, ADA compliance is relevant to you. In the UK, the Equality Act 2010 has similar requirements for digital accessibility.
Basic accessibility checks
Alt text on images. Every image needs a text description for screen readers. This is also required under the Equality Act 2010.
Language attribute. Your HTML needs to declare its language so screen readers know how to pronounce words.
Keyboard navigation. Visitors must be able to navigate your site using only a keyboard.
Colour contrast. Text must have sufficient contrast against its background to be readable.
How LaunchKitty helps
We check alt text coverage, language attributes, and viewport configuration on every scan. Missing accessibility features are flagged with region-appropriate prescriptions referencing either ADA or the Equality Act depending on your selected region.
